STRATFIELD SAYE HOUSE WILL BE CLOSED IN 2002

Stratfield Saye House will be closed throughout 2002 for essential restoration

The Trustees have reluctantly decided that, for the safety of the public, the House and grounds should remain closed while the work is being undertaken. The Trustees will also take the opportunity to restore paintings and works of art normally on view to the public.

This is the fifth year of an ongoing programme of work, which recent visitors to the House will have noticed. It is hoped that, by closing for one season, a greater volume can be completed. The roof and chimneys are being repaired, a quantity of lead work renewed and some roof and decking timbers replaced on the south end of the building.

In addition to securing the historic fabric of the House for future generations, it is hoped that these works will enhance the visitor experience.

The House will reopen in 2003 with revised dates, which will be posted here later in the year.
